<ABSTRACT>
‘2012 Bipolar day” was organized by the Korean Society for Depressive and Bipolar Disorders (KSDB) for the public education and screening of Bipolar disorders. 71 mental health institutions including 31 mental hospitals and clinics, 40 community mental health centers joined the project from 21 May to 18 June in 2012. In order to conduct the project, KSDB disseminated the educational and promotional materials such as slides, video, poster, and leaflets and screening tools of Korean Version of Mood Disorder Questionnaire (K-MDQ) and Bipolar Spectrum Diagnostic Scale (BSDS) for the public education and screening of bipolar disorders to the institutions. Among 4,904 participants of the project, 2,262 people (46.1%) completed the screening tests. According to the results of screening tests, 22% of the responders were highly probable at the K-MDQ, and 39% were moderate and highly probable at the BSDS. Participants were satisfied with not only educational materials to understand bipolar disorder but also opportunity to identify their state of mental health through screening tests. In order to investigate the effectiveness of the project, continuous project and systematic evaluation are required in the future. (J of Kor Soc for Dep and Bip Disorders 2013;11:202-206)
